History

  • Marianna holds a Bachelor of Laws degree, with honors, from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (2021). She completed part of her studies at the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva, focusing on International Law and Arbitration;
  • While at IHEID, she participated in a research group led by Professor Thomas Schultz, exploring arbitration’s role in maintaining the prevailing social order;
  • From 2018 to 2022, she was a teaching assistant for the Constitutional Law course taught by Professor Roberto Dias at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo;
  • She is a specialist in Energy Law, certified by the Brazilian Institute of Law and Energy (2023).

Career

  • Marianna has experience in handling complex disputes and representing clients in arbitration and litigation proceedings across various types of commercial and corporate disputes;
  • She is an active researcher with the Arbitration and International Sale of Goods Study Group at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo, coordinated by Professor Cláudio Finkelstein. The group conducts empirical research on arbitration and international trade;
  • Participated in the Brazilian Arbitration and Business Mediation Competition (CAMARB) in 2018 and 2021 and the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in 2019. Currently, she coaches the arbitration teams of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo in national and international competitions.

Representative Matters

  • Advised one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies in an international arbitration administered by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), involving liability for the termination of a Farm Out contract. The amount in dispute exceeded USD 1.5 billion;
  • Advised a leading company in the energy sector on pre-litigation and litigation matters involving construction and energy disputes, with an estimated value of BRL 1.6 billion;
  • Represented one of the largest renewable energy companies in an arbitration concerning liability for the termination of a construction contract;
  • Represented one of the world’s largest mining companies in arbitrations related to alleged failures in the capital markets.
